If you ever see Jennifer Lawrence in a restaurant, don’t even think about asking her to pose for a selfie.

“You might think you know me, but when you approach me you’re a total stranger to me and I’m scared,” the Oscar winner says in a new interview with Vanity Fair. “I get very protective of my space. It took me a long time to be able to do that. But if I’m eating dinner and somebody comes up and a flash goes off from someone’s iPhone camera, I am really rude to that person. Then other people at the restaurant will see and be like, ‘Oh, damn, I don’t want to do that.’ Privacy is a full-time job, and I work very hard at it.”

The 26-year-old star, who travels with a security team these days, isn’t just being dramatic. Lawrence — the highest-paid actress in Hollywoodfor the second consecutive year, according to Forbes — is one of the few celebrities who’s not on social media. And for all the quips about insecurities and wardrobe malfunctions that she’s made, Lawrence has stayed tight-lipped about her private life. For instance, she has yet to confirm her rumored romance with director Darren Aronofsky. (She’ll only say that he’s “a visionary.”)

What Lawrence has confirmed is that she and certain celebrities, such as Emma Stoneand Amy Schumer, are close friends. Still, people speculate about that too.

“My brother asked me the other day, ‘Everybody online thinks you and Amy [Schumer] aren’t friends anymore,’” Lawrence tells the magazine. “And I said, ‘Oh, really, because everything online is always true.’”

Rest assured that Schumer and Lawrence are still friends, with plans to eventually play sisters in a big-screen comedy they wrote together.

With all her celebrity friends and so many awards shows on her schedule, Lawrence has found herself starstruck around some other A-listers.

She says that, in person, Beyoncé “looks like she was sent directly from heaven” and that Paul McCartney left quite an impression on her. The former Beatle complimented her on her dancing scene in American Hustle that featured his song “Live and Let Die.”

“I don’t think I spoke back,” she says. “I just dropped my jaw and cried.”

What she didn’t do is ask for a pic for Instagram.
